It seems like everywhere you look someone is offering what he or she claims to be the best web hosting, but yet which ones can actually do what they say they can?  With a little research you will be able to choose a good web host, which is essential to the success of your site.

Web Connection- When searching for a web host, one thing to consider is how much data speeds the hosting provider can handle.  Your best option is to select a provider with at least a backbone connection of a T-3, with multiple connections to prevent downtime in the event of a connection drop.

 

Stability- You want your web host provider to offer a stable connection, which includes limited downtime.  A good manner to find out the stability of the potential host is to contact other clients and ask questions as to how stable they find the provider.  They will be able to give you honest answers based on their own experiences.

 

Adequate Equipment- It is imperative that you know beforehand if the web hosting provider’s hardware can support your business.  They should perform daily back ups of data, plus also provide sufficient bandwidth during peak periods throughout the day.

 

Features- When choosing a good web host, make certain that the plan you choose offers you the most features for the price you are paying.  Don’t think only in terms of now, but also consider your future business needs as well, which will save you time and possibly money in the future by having to purchase features that weren’t included in your package.  Also, if you are certain you aren’t going to use a specific feature, then skip it. 

 

E-Commerce- Check to see what type of e-commerce software that your hosting provider offers.  While some providers offer a full package, others offer support and not much more.  If possible, choose a provider who uses software that you are familiar with and feel confident in using.

 

Security- We all want to know that our data is safe, and feel secure that our website and it’s contents won’t be compromised in any way. Which is why it’s best to discuss with your web host what specific security features exist for the equipment, plus you’ll want to know some of the risks you could possibly face, and what services they provide to ensure your sites security.  After all, if your site is hacked, your provider won’t get the blame, you will.

 

Technical Support- Outstanding technical support is essential in case your website runs into a problem that you can’t seem to fix.  Search for a provider who will offer 24/7 live support, but if that isn’t available, 24/7 email or telephone support works just as well, provided their response time to the email is within 24 hours of sending the email. Ask what the general response time is to responding to emails and again, contact one of the providers clients and ask what their experience has been if you want to be certain.

 

Searching for a good web host depends ultimately on the individual needs of the person or business seeking the provider. Identify the needs and goals that are needed for your site and make informed decisions based on those needs.
