One thing is for certain, there are many hosting providers that offer both disk space and bandwidth options that exceed what the average customer may need, so remember that while it may seem like a better option, if the less expensive option will fulfill your needs, you’re better off going with that option.   For example:  60MB of disk space on a hosting account is more than an ample amount of space for someone who is beginning a site about a certain genre, industry or topic, while if you are planning to have a site which is going to offer an abundance of photographs, mp3 or videos for users to download or purchase, then 100MB of disk space hosting account would be a good start, while a personal website would be sufficient with 30MB of disk space hosting account, and a professional or corporate site with around 20 pages, 40MB of disk space hosting account should be enough.

 

The next thing to consider would be to determine what hardware requirements your web host will run. Would you prefer a Linux based system, or a Windows based system, it’s important that your web hosting company meets your needs.

 

Most web hosting providers offer both POP3 and web mail accounts, and the most ideal offer administration controls. Make sure that the number of email accounts available to you is enough to meet your needs.

The standard method of downloading and uploading files to your website from your computer is FTP Accounts, and usually available with all hosting providers.

 

A user-friendly interface such as a control panel is one of the more useful tools in managing your web hosting account, and definitely a feature that you wouldn’t want to omit when shopping for a web hosting account.
